Abuja, Nigeria —[Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) News Desk]
The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to urgently seize the opportunity presented by the recent intervention of the United States Government, following Nigeria’s designation as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) over gross human rights violations and reported Christian persecutions.
In a strong-worded statement jointly signed by Most Rev. Dr. David Onuoha, President, and Rt. Rev. Dr. Evans Onyemara, General Secretary, the Council described the U.S. pronouncement not as an act of foreign intrusion but as a divine answer to the cries of millions of oppressed Nigerians seeking justice and peace.
“A Welcome Development, Not an Invasion” — CCN
The statement emphasized that the American Government’s anticipated intervention should be seen as an act of global solidarity rather than an assault on Nigeria’s sovereignty.
“This should not be misconstrued as an invasion of a sovereign state,” the Council stated, “but as an answered prayer and a welcome development to assist Nigeria deal with the intractable problem of insecurity which has devastated our dear country for nearly two decades.”
The CCN further stressed that this was not the time for political debates or divisive narratives about whether a Christian genocide exists in Nigeria. Instead, it is a moral call to unite across political, ethnic, and religious lines to end the bloodshed.
⚖️ Rejecting Violence and Calling for National Unity
The Council decried the apparent lack of political will to stop the mass killings, kidnappings, and banditry that have turned parts of Nigeria into danger zones.
“The slaughter of Nigerians in their own land is a grave reflection of our nation’s deteriorating moral, security, and governance conditions,” the statement lamented. “Every life lost diminishes our humanity and offends the image of God in human beings.”
The CCN reminded government leaders that the primary duty of any responsible government is the protection of life and property — a sacred trust under God.
🙏 A Call to Prayer, Justice, and Action
As a faith-based organization committed to justice, peace, and unity, the Christian Council of Nigeria reaffirmed its spiritual and moral duty to stand for truth and defend the sanctity of life.
“We reject violence, oppression, and hatred in every form,” the statement reads. “We call upon all Christians and Nigerians of goodwill to pray fervently for Nigeria — that righteousness may once again exalt our nation (Proverbs 14:34).”
The Council emphasized that true peace is not the absence of war but the presence of justice, and urged national and international cooperation to bring lasting peace to Nigeria.
🇳🇬 “History Will Be Kind to President Tinubu If He Acts Now”
In a direct appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Council urged decisive leadership to end the cycle of violence and impunity that has plagued Nigeria for years.
“History will be kind to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if he seizes this opportunity to end the killings that have plagued this country for many years now,” the statement concluded. “Every right-thinking Nigerian and all people of goodwill should uphold our President in prayer for wisdom and courage to act now.”
