Spread the love

In a landmark effort to bridge the gap between faith and technology, the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) is hosting a two-part national workshop focused on “Artificial Intelligence and Religion.” Organized by the Nigeria Religious Coalition on Artificial Intelligence (NRC-AI), the initiative aims to build capacity among religious leaders and institutions on the ethical, spiritual, and social implications of artificial intelligence.

The first session is scheduled for May 13, 2025, at the CCN Conference Room in Abuja for participants from the Northern Zone. The second session will be held on May 15, 2025, at the CCN-ICS Conference Room in Ibadan for stakeholders in the Southern Zone.

The workshop is supported by the Future of Life Institute and features prominent religious and interfaith leaders as facilitators, including Rt. Rev. Simeon Oluwole Onaleke of the Methodist Diocese of Agodi Ibadan, Mr. Tajudeen Alabede, Executive Director of the Faith for Peace Initiative, Prof. Khalid Aliyu Abubakar of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), and Rt. Rev. Dr. Evans Onyemara, General Secretary of the CCN.

Speaking ahead of the workshop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Onyemara highlighted the urgent need for religious institutions to actively engage in technological discourse:

“Artificial Intelligence is reshaping every aspect of human life, including our moral and spiritual landscapes. This workshop is a vital step in ensuring that our religious communities are not left behind, but are instead empowered to shape the ethical use of technology for the common good.”

Participants will explore how AI intersects with theological reflection, pastoral care, social justice, and peacebuilding, all while maintaining the integrity of faith tradition.
