KAURU, KADUNA STATE | The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), in collaboration with the Social Justice and Human Development for Peace Initiative (JDPC Jos), has organised a two-day civic engagement programme on human rights and responsibilities for 40 participants from crisis-affected communities in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Supported by Christian Aid Nigeria, the programme was organised under the PeARLS Project (Peacebuilding, Accountability, Resilience and Local Solutions), implemented through Christian Aid’s Community-Led Peacebuilding Signature Programme.

Participants from Kishisho, Kitakum and Kikoba communities explored fundamental human rights and responsibilities, civic participation, inclusive decision-making and community-led peacebuilding.

The engagement provided a platform for participants to share experiences, articulate community concerns and develop strategies for communicating their priorities to relevant stakeholders. Special attention was given to the participation of women, young people and persons with disabilities in community development and peacebuilding processes.

The initiative seeks to strengthen community ownership, resilience and accountability by empowering crisis-affected populations to identify local challenges, mobilise available resources and develop sustainable solutions.
