Ibadan, Nigeria – The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) 2025 Standing Committee meeting, held yesterday at the Institute of Church and Society in Ibadan, concluded with a call for decisive and coordinated action to tackle the nation’s challenges.

Most Rev. David Onuoha, the President of CCN, praised the Federal Government for its boldness in introducing key economic and social reforms, but stressed that the true measure of their success must be felt by ordinary Nigerians, not just in statistical figures.
In his address, the CCN President acknowledged the severe hunger and hardship facing many citizens, calling for urgent government intervention to prevent social unrest.
He urged leaders at all levels to be sincere and patient, emphasizing that deep-seated economic problems cannot be solved overnight.
A central theme of his address was the need for the government to regularly review its policies.
Most Rev. Onuoha highlighted that human welfare should be the guiding metric for reform, and he specifically called on state governors to effectively utilize their increased allocations to benefit their citizens.
He also advocated for innovative accountability mechanisms, citing the continued non-compliance with the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government autonomy.
The CCN President expressed concern over persistent insecurity, despite significant investments in the sector, and demanded a reassessment of security strategies.
He also called for the identification and punishment of “fifth columnists” he said were sabotaging national security efforts.
