The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Bwari Area Council, today August 3, 2025 held its 2nd Merit Award & Fund-Raising Service at First Baptist Church, Kubwa.

The event brought together members from various CCN churches for an afternoon of praise, fellowship, and recognition.

The service featured beautiful musical performances and renditions from member churches, including UEC, First Baptist, and the Women of Zion First Baptist Church, Kubwa.

A Call to Collaboration and Service

Rt. Rev. Dr. Evans Onyemara, the General Secretary , Christian Council of Nigeria CCN praised the Baptist Church for its strong support of the CCN and the leadership of the Bwari Area Council.

He encouraged the council to continue its good work and promised his full support, stating, “Let us work together.” He also congratulated the council for celebrating those who have dedicated their time and resources to God’s work.

The Special Adviser to the Chairman, Bwari Area Council Rev. Barr. Dr. Ojefu F. receiving an award on behalf of Hon Dr. John S. Gabaya, Executive Chairman, Bwari Area Council.

The General Secretary delivered a powerful sermon on the theme “Pressing Towards the Goal.” He urged the award recipients to see their awards not as a “retirement benefit,” but as a call to do more. “The reward for good work is more work,” he said, encouraging them to continue representing Jesus everywhere they go. He also emphasized the importance of honesty and integrity, and the need for churches to collaborate, noting that “No one Church can solve the problems of the society.”

The event culminated in the presentation of awards to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their faith and community. Award categories and recipients included:

The Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church, Kubwa; Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Femi Adewara receiving the Defender of Christian Faith award from the General Secretary, CCN.
  • Defender of Christian Faith: Rt. Rev. Duke T. Akamisoko, Rt. Rev. Dr. Frederick A.G. Onoja, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Femi Adewara, and Rev. John Adino.
  • Outstanding Creative Youths: Anthony Abayomi Asa, Ifeanyi Okafor, Noah Enemona Reuben, Sis Mary Joseph, and Light Chimezie Onoh.
  • Outstanding Christian Welfare Personality: Engr Sir Kayode Opooshun, Amos Oladokun Oduleye, Sis. Enobong Joseph, Elder James A Dangana, Sis Sandra Dozie Anyanwu, Mr Peter Ezeani, and Barr. Ahmed Maiwada.
  • Outstanding Christian Leadership: Eld. Samuel Onuche Achimugwu, Bro. Emmanuel Omas Ogbe, Eld. Augustine Akpan Ekpo, and HRH Dr. Uche Egenti.
  • Exemplary Christian Leadership: Bro Frank Olarenwaju Oshanipin, Eld. Edward U. Abalaka, Sir Uwem Jonah Useh, and KCW Sis Bassey Anwan Edet Effiong.
  • Outstanding Christian Entrepreneur: Mrs Kayo Matilukuro, Bro Celestine Ajah, and Eld. Sunday Ameh.
  • Outstanding Christian Mission: Comrade Wendy Frankson, Mr Kalu Paul, and Very Rev Anenechukwu Chidinyerem Ede, Ph.D.

The Christian Council of Nigeria, which was formed in 1929 and formally registered in 1962, continues its mission through three research institutes and a peace and trauma healing center in Jos, working to foster unity and positive social change across the nation.
