CCN Welcomes Release of Oyo Schoolchildren and Teachers, Calls for Renewed Commitment to National Security

ABUJA, Nigeria | July 11, 2026 — The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) has welcomed the release of the schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State after spending 56 days in captivity, describing their freedom as a testimony to God’s mercy and the power of persistent prayer.
In a press statement signed by the General Secretary of the Christian Council of Nigeria, Rt. Rev. Evans Onyemara, Ph.D., the Council expressed gratitude to Almighty God for preserving the lives of the victims and rejoiced with their families, schools, and the people of Oyo State.
The Council acknowledged the emotional, psychological, and physical trauma experienced by the victims and prayed for God’s healing, comfort, and complete restoration for everyone affected.
CCN noted that the incident underscores the urgent need for stronger security measures across the country, stressing that no child should be denied education or subjected to fear because of criminal activities.
The Council commended the security agencies, the Oyo State Government, and all individuals and organisations whose efforts contributed to the successful release of the victims. It also urged the Federal Government and relevant security institutions to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve community-based security, and ensure that perpetrators of kidnapping are brought to justice.

The Christian Council of Nigeria also urged churches across the nation to remain steadfast in prayer for peace, justice, and national security while continuing to promote hope, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence.
The Council concluded by praying for God’s continued blessings upon Nigeria, wisdom for national leaders, strength for security personnel, and lasting peace throughout the country.
