The visit, centered on fostering mutual respect and national unity, saw Mr. Akaninyene meeting with the General Secretary of the CCN, The Rt. Rev. Evans Onyemara PhD, at the council’s secretariat in Abuja.
A Message of Solidarity from the Senate.
Representing the President of the Senate, Dist. Senator Godswill Akpabio GCON, Mr. Akaninyene delivered warm greetings from the Office of the Senate President. He noted that the visit was not merely a formality but a strategic step toward ensuring that the government remains connected to the moral and spiritual heartbeat of the country.
During the dialogue, Mr. Akaninyene emphasized the indispensable role of the Church in nation-building, specifically calling on the CCN to lead a concerted prayer effort for those in positions of authority.
“There is a profound need for the Church, particularly under the umbrella of the CCN, to continue interceding for those in authority,” Akaninyene stated. “Leadership requires divine wisdom, and the support of the faith community is vital for the success of any administration.”
Focus on Unity and the Next Generation
A key highlight of the visit was the discussion surrounding the youth and the future of religious harmony in Nigeria. Mr. Akaninyene urged for a stronger synergy among Christian students across the federation. He challenged the CCN to create more platforms where young believers can come together to foster religious unity and national integration.
In his response, The Rt. Rev. Evans Onyemara PhD expressed his appreciation for the visit, noting that the CCN remains committed to its mandate of advocacy, social justice, humanitarian relief, and ecumenical unity. He reassured the legislative team that the council would continue to support the government through constructive engagement and fervent prayer.
Strengthening the Ecumenical Bond
The Christian Council of Nigeria, CCN, has long been a pillar of stability in Nigeria’s religious landscape. This visit by the Senate President’s aide is seen by political analysts as a “soft power” diplomatic move by the 10th Senate to ensure inclusive governance and religious stability.
During the visit, the General Secretary of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), The Rt. Rev. Evans Onyemara, PhD, offered special prayers for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, and the entire leadership of the nation, asking God to grant them divine wisdom, renewed strength, and moral clarity to pilot the affairs of Nigeria through these challenging and uncertain times. He emphasized the Church’s continuous commitment to interceding for national leaders and upholding peace, justice, and good governance in the country.
As the meeting concluded, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to working together for the peace and progress of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
