In a dedicated effort to combat poverty and champion gender equality, the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) has launched a powerful livelihood initiative in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area.

This project focuses on equipping women and girls with sustainable skills that can immediately translate into income generation, fundamentally challenging the cycle of economic hardship.

CCN, in partnership with Debby County and with generous support from Christian Aid in Nigeria, is currently training twenty-five resilient women and girls from the Barkin-Ladi communities.

The intensive program covers the practical art of Confectionery Crafts, Baking, and Pastry-Making.

These skills were specifically chosen for their high market demand and low barrier to entry, ensuring participants can quickly set up small-scale businesses from their homes.

The training is about more than just mastering recipes; it’s about instilling an entrepreneurial mindset.

The core objective is to give every participant the tools they need to achieve genuine financial independence, enabling them to sustain their families and become economic drivers within their community.

This impactful initiative demonstrates how targeted skill acquisition can be the key to unlocking potential in vulnerable populations.

The long-term vision of this project is clear: to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty that often traps women and their children.

By gaining skills in a profitable trade, these women acquire dignity and control over their financial futures. This CCN empowers Barkin-Ladi women initiative ensures that the income generated benefits the household directly, often leading to better nutrition, education, and healthcare for the children.

The General Secretary, Christian Council of Nigeria, The Rt. Rev. Evans Onyemara, PH D in his interaction with CCN Media stated that “The success of this program is vital evidence that investing in women’s economic stability is the most efficient route to community transformation.”

Through continuous monitoring and support from our partners, we ensure the skills are utilized effectively, thereby magnifying the impact of every Naira invested.

CCN empowers Barkin-Ladi women not just with a skill, but with the confidence and tools necessary to build a prosperous tomorrow.
