Welcome to Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN)

Abuja, Nigeria – July 30, 2025 – Adamawa Floods: The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) today expressed its profound grief and deep sorrow over the tragic flooding that has ravaged Adamawa State, particularly Yola, on Sunday, July 27th, claiming the lives of at least 25 precious souls and displacing thousands more.
Speaking on behalf of the Council, the Secretary, Rt. Rev. Dr. Evans Onyemara, stated:
“It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness that we receive the devastating news of the flash floods in Adamawa State. Our prayers and deepest sympathies go out to the families who have lost loved ones, and to all those who have been displaced, injured, or have had their livelihoods shattered by this catastrophic event. We mourn with the people of Adamawa during this incredibly difficult time.

The loss of life, the disappearance of individuals, and the widespread destruction of homes and property are heartbreaking. This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive and proactive measures to mitigate the impact of natural disasters, especially in the face of increasingly erratic weather patterns attributed to climate change.
The Christian Council of Nigeria commends the immediate efforts of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Red Cross, and other humanitarian organizations, as well as the Adamawa State Government, in their ongoing rescue operations and provision of relief materials. We urge all relevant authorities to intensify these efforts, ensuring that all missing persons are accounted for, and that adequate support reaches every affected individual and family.

Furthermore, we call upon the Federal and State Governments to implement long-term strategies, including robust infrastructure development, improved drainage systems, and effective early warning mechanisms, to prevent such avoidable losses in the future. It is imperative that we prioritize the safety and well-being of our citizens by investing in climate change adaptation and disaster preparedness.
As a Council, we stand in solidarity with the people of Adamawa. We call upon all Christians and people of goodwill to offer their prayers, support, and resources to assist the victims of this flood. Let us demonstrate our faith through acts of compassion and service, extending a hand of hope to those who are hurting.
May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may God grant comfort and strength to all who are grieving and suffering.”
